More Pictures of Playtime

My Grandma (Grayson's Great-Grandmother) gave Grayson a really neat toy for Christmas. He has just begun to really enjoy playing with it. I took that as an opportunity to snap some pictures. He is learning... he knows he is supposed to smile!

It's Spring Break, Mom!!

My boys are being especially lazy this morning.

Day 2 of Spring Break- eBay and such

The highlights of today:

1. I cooked my very first whole chicken in the crock pot. I had heard it was easy to do... but I didn't really expect it to be so simple and GOOD!!

I had a whole chicken, took out the giblets, then covered it in pepper, garlic and hot sauce (Jason's favorite). Then I put it in the crock pot with just a little bit of water (like 1/4 of an inch). It cooked all day on low and when it was time for dinner... it was fall off the bone delicious. Since whole chickens were on sale last week at Bi-Lo, I only spent about $4 on dinner!

2. I'm selling our life on eBay. I get into the mood to do this several times a year. Right now I have 4 auctions going on and I plan to put up more tomorrow. I have never NOT had my items sale on eBay. I figure that it is an easy way to get stuff out of my house and make some money.

3. Grayson has been REALLY, REALLY good. He has taken LOTS of long naps in his crib and when he is awake he wants to play! We're having a fun time together.

Concert Festival and Real Life

Today was 8th Grade Concert Festival day. For all of you that have been out of band for a while, or maybe didn't ever get to experience the joy that is concert festival let me just explain:

1. You take 60+ middle school kids to play a concert.
2. They complain about what you decided to make them wear and then proceed to stuff their faces with    TONS of pizza from the pizza buffet, then toot uncontrollably and laugh about it.
3. You get them off the bus, take them to use the potty, yell at 3 or 4 kids for being crazy, unpack, get them in line, pass out their music...

THEN

Play a concert and don't mess up... even a little bit!!

My kids did well. We ended up making an excellent on stage (the second highest rating) and superior in sight-reading (the highest rating). I was a little bummed that my kids didn't score higher on the stage portion, but they absolutely played their little middle school hearts out.

The best thing about my life now, is that no matter what my day looked like (good, bad, or crazy), this is what I come home to:

And that is the end of my concert festival story.

We LOVE Our Laptop

We ALL love the laptop... it is almost always in someone's hands when we are at home. It looks like Grayson has developed the addiction. He can't get enough of hitting the keys!

Grayson's Heart

Our Grayson has a sweet heart, but it has a couple of problems. These were discovered on our last day in the hospital, right as we were waiting to get our discharge papers. Grayson's pediatrician walked in to examine him and said, "Has anyone told you that he has a heart murmur?". Of course, we said NO, and he set us up for an appointment with the pediatric cardiologist. When he was only 4 days old, we went for his first visit. They checked him out for 2.5 hours straight, and came back to tell us that he did have 2 places in his heart that needed monitoring.

Yesterday, we visited the pediatric cardiologist again. We discovered some good news, the VSD that he has is very small and will likely cause him no problems in life. Lots of people have this defect... even Jason... BUT, they said it isn't genetic.

The hole that we are concerned about is called an Atrial Septal Defect or ASD. This is basically a hole between the upper two chambers. These defects are actually very hard to hear with a stethoscope, so we are kind of lucky that his VSD caused us to be referred... otherwise, no one would have known that he had this other problem. Left untreated, it can cause one side of the heart to become enlarged because it has to work harder than the other side. This can lead to several different problems, with high blood pressure being the main issue.

Worse case scenario will be that when he is three years old he'll need an overnight stay in the hospital to have a heart catheterization done to close the hole. Most likely, we'll be able to wait until he is 4 or 5 to do the operation. However, we may get lucky and NEVER have to have surgery.

We scheduled another appointment for September 7th to have another look at his heart and see if it is improving. Until then, Grayson gets to be a normal baby, and should have no issues at all with this ASD thing. :)

Today was a great day to go outside! After lunch, we packed up and traveled to Furman to walk around the lake. It was nice exercise! We think we might try to do this again very soon! Here are some pictures from our day!

Lots of Random Things

One of the most fun events in a teacher's career happened today... snow magically fell from the sky and we got to leave early!!! I went to pick up Grayson, and we all had a fun day at home. This post is COMPLETELY random... but I wanted to make sure I documented several baby milestones!

Guess what Grayson can do now??? Sit up like a big baby!

He is beginning to really like tummy time now...

Now he eats breakfast (cereal and fruit), lunch (veggies), and dinner (meat, veggie, & fruit) along with four 7 ounce bottles of formula every day. Sometimes he doesn't finish all of his bottles... he'd rather eat like real people.

Grayson's favorite things to eat are:

Bananas
Applesauce
Prunes
Pears
Sweet Potatoes
Squash
Rice Cereal with fruit

Now... because he is growing so fast and I really don't know if he'll fit into his Easter clothes at Easter... here is what he will look like on Easter if he doesn't get too much bigger!
